<This is Park Shin Hye who played Go Mi Nam in "Ikemen" and had to dress as a boy, her twin. It was a cute role for her. Now in her new drama "Heartstrings" she plays Kyu Won, a university student.>


1. In the drama, you play an art student, so this role is really close to you in real life?
"I want to show some similarity and fit parts (from the drama) to herself. I thought I could show new sides of me by challenging new thing-gayageum."


2. Kyu Won is a cheerful character, are there any similarities and differences between you and Kyu Won?
"We are cheerful but lack confidence and we are very simple people. I haven't discovered yet how I might be different from Kyu Won."

3. Kyu Won plays the gayageum and majored in it in college, did you have any difficulty playing the gayageum?
"I've never played the gayageum before so I started practicing one month before the start of filming. When you play the gayageum, you have to use both hands, one to make the music and the other to make the vibrations. I have to pretend I am good at the gayageum since my character majors it in. It was difficult to play as good as real gayageum majors."

<This drama is about art students, about her tears and sweats and about going on stage and succeeding, and also about discovering love. It's about love but it's also a painful college romance. Shin Hye plays the role of the heroine who likes the cool student Lee Shin, played by Jung Yong Hwa.>


4. You play again with Yong Hwa, what was your thoughts when you knew you'd be playing with him again?
"My first thoughts were, Oh nice, we will be able to do something nice together, play nice part and we are friends because we have already acted together before. We are friends so we will have good chemistry on the set."


5. What are your impression of Yong Hwa playing his character?
"Yong Hwa likes to play pranks a lot, but he can also be elegant so it was pleasant. We could be friends without any problems."

6. Yong Hwa plays Lee Shin, a really cool role and so in the drama, you like this guy, but in fact, what is your type?
"My type is like my dad. Someone who is nice, gentle, has leadership quality. Someone who is taciturn but who can also protect me."


<The location is Jeju Island and they shot at a resort. It was in the southeast part of the island. There is a lighthouse by the ocean and Shin Hye lights us with her brilliant performance. She's like a real star.>


7. Your schedule is very tight. What do you do to refresh/relax yourself?
"When I drive, I listen to music really loud and when I want to cry, I cry. And I dances. I got my driver's license a year ago, but I don't have many opportunities to drive so I'm not a really good driver."

8. Now if you have an occasion would you like to make a drama/movie in Japan? Is there an actor or actress with whom you would like to work?
"Yes if there's a character in a drama/movie that fits me, I would like to do it. I'd like work with Eita (age 28) from "Sunao ni narenakute - Hard to say I love you" and Miura Haruma from "Bloody Monday". These dramas were very interesting.


9. Do you have a message for Japanese fans?
"I wanted to come and visit Japanese fans but I had to film in Taiwan and now in Korea so I didn't have time. Once shooting is over, I think I will spend some time together in Japan. Thank you for loving "You're Beautiful <Ikemendesune>" And please love "Heartstrings."

On 27th, Radio MBC broadcast a pre-recorded audio interview segment of 'Heartstrings' cast member Park Shin Hye and DJ Yoon Do-hyun.

In the program, Shin Hyetalked about her upcoming drama, her characters and also some fun facts about her costar Jung Yonghwa. (Complete audio below) We have translated the conversation between Shin Hye and Yoon Do-hyun:

Y: Yoon Do-hyun                SH: Shin Hye

Y: I heard that Shin Hye has been chosen as the female lead for MBC Wednesday/Thursday drama.

SH: Yes

Y: The name is 'Heartstrings', cast members include Park Shin Hye who's the guest here right now, CNBlue's Jung Yonghwa, Song Chang-Ui and So Yi-hyun. Except for Park Shin Hye, I am close with all other cast members(jokingly) .

SH: Really?

Y: What is the drama about?

SH: It's a story with an arts university as background. I am a member of the Traditional Music Department while Yonghwa's from the Applied Music Department. A group of friends gathering together for a month to prepare for the school performance. Love and friendship are entwined in the story .

Y: There's a lot about music, too, right?

SH: That's right. Music takes a major role in the drama. The band that Yonghwa is in )in the drama) is a vastly popular one in school, so there will be a lot of public performance scenes related to that band. 

Y: Ah that's interesting. The broadcast will begin on 29th?

SH: Yes

Y: I am looking forward to it. How do you feel? Do you think it will succeed?

SH: Yes...I hope so...

Y: It seems to be that the atmosphere of the drama is very nice. Firstly, the cast gives people a fresh feeling, and also there's a rock band and a traditional music group. Gives people an interesting feeling. Park Shin Hye's character specializes in gayageum, right?

SH: Yes, she is a gayageum specialist. 

Y: So you gotta practice gayageum?

SH: Yes, I started learning gayageum one month before the filming started, so now I can play some easy songs. However, for those fast songs, with pace so fast that you can hardly see the finger movement... those I think need 10 years of learning before being able to play....... I was able to achieve the beginner's level quickly, and my teacher was kind of shocked and complimented me :)

Y: Ah, Park Shin Hye is really talented!

SH: Thank you.

Y: In 'You're Beautiful' (2009), Jung Yonghwa was also cast and starred as a character who loves Park Shin Hye. For 'Heartstrings', is the situation similar? Seems to me that in 'Heartstrings' there will be a subtle loveline between the two of you. 

SH: Yes there will be. But this time, the situation is opposite... Yonghwa doesn't like me and I fall in love with his character first. My feeling for him in the drama is : 'Ah, this guy is quite nice and quite handsome' and develop feelings for him.

Y: This is your 2nd time working together, You two have grown close?

SH: Yes, during 'You're Beautiful', we already became very close friends. Close to a point that.. when we were both cast for this drama(Heartstrings), we were worried and thought: 'Ah.. what should we do when there are intimate scenes?'

Y: Ah, it will be embarrassing, right? I know how you feel, when you're that close friends, you will feel embarrassed when filming these scenes.

SH: Yes, and also... the Yonghwa I know and Lee Shin in 'Heartstrings'.... don't quite match....

Y: HAHAHAHA!!!

SH: In the drama he is too handsome! Which shocked me and I thought 'Ah this kid has a side like this!'

Y: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!! Yonghwa is a very cheerful person in real life.

SH: Yes, he is very cheerful.

Y: That's why he doesn't quite match with his character in the drama (Lee Shin is very cold).

SH: Yes, exactly.

Y: If Yonghwa is your boyfriend, how will it be?

SH: You mean in real life?

Y: Yes, your ages are quite close?

SH: Yes, we're same age buddies. 

Y: Oh you are same age friends! So.. what is your feeling?

SH: Hmm... he is very popular in real life, so if we were dating, I would feel very tired.. I would feel like.. he would not be a very good boyfriend... Ah am I too honest?

Y: No, I think you're right. When celebrities are too famous, they will give their partners a tired feeling. But if, if Jung Yonghwa is not a popular celebrity, then will it be ok?

SH: But.. that is.. AHAHAHAHA!!

Y: Jung Yonghwa-ssi, I am sorry (that we are laughing) haha we don't mean it. Yonghwa is a dongsaeng that I like very much.

[NEWS] 'Lead singer' Park Shin Hye denies rumors about her and Jang Keun Suk/Jung Yonghwa

Actress Park Shin Hye transforms into art college student representative with her elegance and fresh charms.

In a set of drama stills revealed today, Park Shin Hye is seen singing with sparkling eyes and fresh smiles. Her body language expressed through her pose shows her passion and enjoyment towards singing.

Park Shin Hye plays gayageum prodigy Lee Kyu Won in MBC upcoming drama 'Heartrings'. Through her character, Shin Hye's astounding talent in music, dance and acting can be seen by viewers.

Staff of the drama said 'Park Shin Hye is an actress who devotes a lot of passion to her job. She practices her lines word by word, and diligently learns her songs. All crew members are wowed by her performance. Please give a lot of support to Lee Kyu Won and Park Shin Hye.'

Also capturing a lot of attention are the rumors between Shin Hye and her ex/present costars Jang Keun Suk and Jung Yonghwa. Many people speculate that the actress is dating either one of the actors. In response to this, Shin Hye firmly denied the rumors and said NO.

'I grew close to both Jang Keun Suk and Jung Yonghwa through our previous drama project 'You're Beautiful" (2009). But I am definitely not dating either one of them.' Park Shin Hye said in an interview with Sports Chosun.

In SBS drama "You're Beautiful", Park Shin Hye and Jang Keun Suk play a couple and have a lot of intimate scenes. Fans of the drama often ask 'Are they really dating in real life?'.

As for Jung Yonghwa, he worked with Shin Hye previously in YAB, and becomes her costar again in MBC drama 'Heartstrings'. At the 47th Paeksang Arts Awards, Yonghwa went on stage to surprise Shin Hye with a bouquet of flowers, which further cause people to question their relationship.

"Yonghwa is my good friend. I am very thankful for him surprising me with flowers at the Paeksang Arts Awards." Fans of Jung Yonghwa approve Park Shin Hye with comments like 'If Yonghwa dates Shin Hye, it's ok." To this, Shin Hye said "Because we are both blood type A people, we can get along very well. A "HEARTSTRINGS" Project: Prayer Flags in the Wind

I have seen them in documentaries on Tibet, in Brad Pitt's movie "Seven Years in Tibet: or other such shows on the Himalayas, but I didn't know they were prayer flags. I didn't give them much thought. Until, in brainstorming for the next project, one of us suggested prayer flags.

What is a prayer flag?

"A prayer flag is a colorful panel of rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. They are used to bless the surrounding countryside and for other purposes." So if that village in Nepal that Shin Hye went to December 2009 was in the highlands then she'd have seen these on top of temples or mountains..

Prayer flags started as sutras (scriptural narratives or a rule in the Sanskrit literature) written on banners that traditionally, comes in sets of five, one in each of five colors representing the elements, arranged from left to right in specific order: blue (sky/space), white (air/wind), red (fire), green (water), and then yellow (earth).

Prayer flags are gentle reminders, bringing us back to our essence and helping us to open our hearts and minds. When we hang prayer flags, we create the intention for more kindness for ourselves and all beings.

"As they wave in the wind, prayer flags lift up and carry our wishes for compassion, peace, and healing around the earth. Prayer flags encourage us to live more mindfully and help us to restore our own inner calm."

[NEWS] 'Randy Shin Hye' requests to open for Kia Tigers

Baseball fan Park Shin Hye wishes to open for Korean professional baseball team 'Kia Tigers' in the upcoming playoffs (postseason game).

Park Shin Hye said: "As an avid Kia Tigers fan, I openly expressed my wish to open for Kia Tigers on Twitter, but sadly no one contacted me. Please, please contact me during the next playoffs."

In 2006, Shin Hye was invited to open for Kia Tigers. Her excellent left-hand pitching skills earned her the nickname 'Randy Shin Hye'. (Randy Johnson is a well-known American left-handed baseball pitcher)

The production press conference of MBC drama 'Heartstrings' was held today 2pm at Novotel Ambassador Hotel, Gangnam, South Korea.

All cast members were present at the press conference. They introduced the drama, the cast, the PD and the scriptwriter.

This is CNBlue's leader Jung Yonghwa's first time taking a lead actor role. He said that at first he felt stressful, but as filming starts he feels much more relaxed as he and Park Shin Hye co-operated together in previous drama 'You're Beautiful' (2009). 'Though I cannot grasp the emotions of my character 100% correctly sometimes, I still work my best to prepare for it. I receive many valuable opinions from people around me, which makes my filming experience fruitful."

Yonghwa said, "I didn't know Park Shinhye would be casted. I loved my character too much. After I heard Shinhye was casted, we discussed a lot about the characters. Then the filming started, Shinhye and I are friends, we can talk about our drama more comfortably.Park Shinhye said, "I thought Yonghwa being casted would be a plus effect. It's been two years since we've met in front of the camera. I felt awkward about his character at first, but as the filming goes by, I feel fresh to see that Yonghwa had this side of figure. I am being stimulated by him, really enjoying the filming.Same age friends two are stuck together always. 

In the drama, Yonghwa plays a college idol Lee Shin, who is popular in school but has an extremely badass personality. In contrast, Kyu Won (starring Shin Hye) is a compassionate and warm-hearted girl. 

When asked about rumors of them dating, Yonghwa said "Maybe it's because Shin Hye and I are so close. But instead of lovers, Shin Hye feels like a same-age guy friend to me. I don't have a lot of friends who are actors, and Shin Hye is one of the few."

Shin Hye responded: "Yonghwa is a very good friend, but as a guy... well he's Type A bloodtype..."

Park Shinhye said, "When Yonghwa didn't sleep enough, he bothers me, behaves badly. Sometimes his mischief exceeds the limit, I get angry not as Gyuwon but as Shinhye. We are quarreling and building our characters.Yonghwa said, "I bother her not because I am interested in her, but I feel so comfortable with her. Now I feel like she is CNBLUE member."

On Yonghwa's birthday (June 22), the filming went past 12am. When nobody remembered nor said happy birthday to him, Yonghwa said he was quite upset. But Shin Hye, Minhyuk and other staff surprised him with a birthday cake. To that, Yonghwa said "Shin Hye pretended to be angry with me that day and didn't talk to me. But I didn't notice that it was part of the plan and was upset. I thought, are people forgetting my birthday because I am growing old?"

Park Shin Hye added: "I wanted to surprised him that's why I pretended to be angry. We ran out to buy a cake for him in the middle of filming, yet he got angry! >_< And Yonghwa's fans tweeted me on Twitter asking why I didn't celebrate his birthday.... >_<"

Heartstrings is a melodrama about love, friendships and dreams. The 1st episode will be broadcast on MBC on June 29 2011.
